The Twilight Concert Series has become a summer ritual for many Salt Lakers. It’s a great reason to get a group of friends together, get dressed up (or down) and head downtown for great live music.
We’ve gone through this year’s lineup and listened to EVERY one of the bands so we can give you a summary of the lineup! We’ve even put together a list of videos so you can listen for yourself.
July 20th
The concerts kick off with Hippie Sabotage. Hippie Sabotage is NOT a hippie band but is a super chill, kind of music, great for dancing to. The two man band EDM band from Sacramento will make you swayyyy. It’s a perfect opener for the season! Opening is Tishmal and XYLO. Tishmal and XYLO are both woman-led indie pop-esque dance friendly bands that will ease you into the evening with their pretty tunes.
July 25th
The next week at SLC Twilight Series is a more folk and Americana kind of night with Americana band from Portland, Oregon, Blind Pilot. With opening acts, Hollering Pines, a pretty folk inspired, female led “high desert rock & roll” will surely be fun to see with slow tunes to make you cry and jumping tunes to dance to! Foxwarren is the other band, Andy Shauf’s (a well-known Canadian singer/songwriter) project with his friends.
August 1st
This concert will headline rock band, Young the Giant- a gentle, pop-inspired kind of rock band that will be a lot of fun! You can listen to their music (BELOW). Opening up are two Utah bands. Sego, (a duo hailing from Utah but now based in LA) and The Aces. The Aces are an all gal band with a lot of energy. We’re really forward to seeing Sego, a noisy, rockin’ band that will surely be enjoyable. This will be a great night to downtown and listen some local (or previously local) talent.
August 8th
Vince Staples is a rapper, singer, song-writer and actor who rose to fame with appearances on albums by Odd Future members and his collaborative mixtape titled Stolen Youth with Mac Miller. Check out one of his tracks. Opening acts are Brooklyn based, Leikeli47, who’s known for wearing bandanas or balaclavas over her face during all performances and public appearances. Balaclavas asaid, her musicianship stand on its own. Vibe says “the dynamic, and featureless, effort is loaded with creativity, vigor and the power of her own feminism. It’s evident that Leikeli is aiming to break rules and push boundaries hip-hop”. And there will even be a Utah-based rapper opening up this night, Concise Kilgore. It will an amazing show and worth seeing every one of these great talents
August 15th
Courtney Barnett headlines this night’s show! Courtney is an Australia based artist with incredible songs and she’s one of our very favorites in this year’s line-up. Her irreverent, stream of consciousness lyrics set to rock and roll will make you dance and sing and want to be her best friend. Her show will definitely be one to see.
Opening up is Snail Mail, an American indie rock band led by Lindsey Jordan, dubbed the “wisest teenage indie-rocker we know” by Pitchfork.
August 30th
The last show of the series is on August 30th and features Santigold, the critically acclaimed singer and song-writer from Philly. You’ll instantly recognize this song if you don’t already know who she is!
We’re glad to have another year of the amazing Twilight Concert Series in downtown Salt Lake!
