Downtown Salt Lake Has a New, Locally Owned Grocery Store: The Store

October 25, 2019

If you live in the downtown Salt Lake area, chances are you shop at Harmon’s, Smith’s, Whole Foods or Natural Grocers but if you’re west of Main Street (like a LOT of people are) it’s not a quick trip to the store and you most likely, aren’t walking there. That’s why we’re so excited that The Gateway brought in the locally owned and operated grocery store, The Store. This small grocery store chain started in Holladay and has been a local favorite there since 1968. What’s great about The Store?

The Store has a focus on local, artisan goods and has an original, small business, hometown kind of feel that’s pretty refreshing.

Cases are stocked with store-made frozen, to go items, like pot pies, lasagnas, mac and cheese and more.

The Store features an array of locally sourced foods and products. The deli offers local deli meats from Double L Ranch and the beer selection is heavily stocked by Salt Lake based breweries. On their website, they list even more local items, along with the distance from the store. (See the full list of local items below.)

Fresh baked, buttery pastries!

Right as you walk into the front doors of the store you’ll be drawn to the amazing pastry case filled with house made chocolate croissants, kougin amann, cuban meat pies, cookies and other buttery, flakey delectables. There’s a small seating area, fresh, well-stocked produce, sushi bar, salad bar, breakfast and an amazing array of store made to-go items like soups, sandwiches, take and bake pizzas, lasagnas, pot pies and other incredible comfort foods that can feed one person or a whole family or party.
