Downtown Salt Lake is chock- full of swingin’ lunch spots that you and your friends need to check out.
If you’re like most of us, you end up eating at the same two or three places every week. While familiarity is of course, comforting and easy- it does get a little boring, doesn’t it? We know of some delicious restaurants in downtown Salt Lake and the surrounding areas that you should definitely add into your rotation!
1.Have you been to Shambhala Cafe in the Avenues?
It’s so quiet in this little Himalayan restaurant that it feels like a secret place- but the food is so good. It’s one of our favorite lunch spots. You can keep it light and healthy with steamed veggies, lentil soup and the spicy tofu or go slightly big with the fall apart spicy chicken and the MOMOS, fried buns stuffed with veggies or meat. No website but it’s here… 382 4th Ave Salt Lake City, UT 84103
2. Spitz, will surprise you.
They are known for their Doners kebabs which is a middle eastern pita sandwich of sorts with thinly sliced and spiced meats and a plethora of beautiful toppings but they also have some other great items like the The Doner Basket. The first time you order it you won’t be believe so many delicious things could go together and come in one perfect basket. Think french fries on salad with tzatick, feta, cucumbers, falafel, fried pita chips, it just goes on and on. You will not regret spending your lunch hour here. http://spitzslc.com/ 35 Broadway Salt Lake City, UT 84111
3. Caputos is classic.
This deli- style sandwich market sells salads, soups and other delectables but really- Who doesn’t love THE SOPRANO?? You can kill two birds with one stone when you pick up some chocolate, house made cheeses and olives at lunch to have with your wine at dinner. YES. (plus there are 3 locations, one downtown, one at 15th and 15th and one in Holiday). Tony Caputo’s Market & Deli
4. Niche has great salads!
The menu changes seasonally and Niche sources much of its produce, meats and cheeses locally. You can taste how fresh the food is. The ingredients are simple but elegantly combined. Also, they serve brunch every day, a real plus if you are the kind that likes brunch for lunch. We love this place. Caffe Niche, 779 East 300 South Salt Lake City UT 84102
5. Mollie and Ollie’s is a new spot on Main Street.
This is an incredible spot to stop in if you want a flavorful, healthy and fast lunch! They have everything from acai bowls and egg scrambles at breakfast to inspired salads, rice bowls and noodle bowls at lunch. The greatest thing, (other than the taste of the food), is that they source as much as their food as they can, locally, making it extra fresh, sustainable and good for you! http://www.mollieandollie.com/ 159 South Main Street Salt Lake City 84111
6. Proper Burger Co. on south Main Street in downtown Salt Lake has a burger for everyone.
These fresh, super delicious burgers will make you happy. They make all of thier fresh, never frozen meat and veggie patties from scratch. And never fear, they have salads- like the Kale Ceaser! Proper Burger Co. 865 Main St. SLC, UT 84111
7.Sage’s Cafe is Salt Lake’s oldest and still one of the few vegan restaurants in town.
It moved locations a few years ago and we love the newer spot. The food is organic, local and so healthy and fresh. They even have raw items on the menu for the real raw foodies amongst you. Sage’s Cafe, 234 West 900 South, SLC, UT, US
8. Eggs in the City? Breakfast all day, you say?
Okay, it’s not quite downtown but it’s in the vicinity. We love the friendly folks that run this place and the huevos rancheros at this little neighborhood establishment are the best. They serve regular lunch items too, like great salads and sandwiches BUUUT we always stick with the huevos. Eggs in the City 1675 E 1300 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84105
9. If you’re venturing into Sugarhouse at lunchtime, check out Aubergine & Company.
We found out about this place from SLC Foodie. This fast, fresh and local Utah chain has great food. The Mediterranean Salad comes with baked falafel, baba ganoush, tomato and cucumber salad, greek olives and so many delicious, ingredients. They do smoothies, juices and acai bowls (at the acai bowl bar), as well. Check it out! Aubergine & Company. 2122 S Highland Dr. SLC, UT 84106
10.Taco Taco- Have you stopped in to Taco Taco for lunch?
It’s a great little spot with a shaded patio and a good salsa and condiment bar so you can customize their yummy tacos. You might want to stop in for happy hour after work too, because they have some great margaritas! Taco Taco. 208 East 500 South Salt Lake City, Utah 84102
