The 2nd and 2nd area of downtown Salt Lake is home to a new Taqueria 27.
The 2nd and 2nd area (200 South and 200 East) of downtown Salt Lake just seems to be getting better and better. This area has been the long-time home of the Guthrie Studios, where several famous Utah artists work and socialize. Over the years and as this area has progressed, cool new businesses have opened. There’s FICE, a great clothing and specialty sneaker store; Este Pizza, a New York style pizza joint; two of the city’s best art galleries (CUAC and Modern West Fine Art) and now there’s a new Taqueria 27 open right next door to Bar X and Beer Bar. But what neighborhood is complete without a great taco bar?
With 2 other locations, Taqueria 27 is a Salt Lake favorite because they serve gourmet tacos, salsas and best of all- amazing margaritas. They have 27 different types of tequila in house and their margaritas are de-lish. The classic, house margarita is totally solid but my personal favorite is the jalapeño margarita. If you like tacos you will love this place. If you like tacos and tequila, you will be in hog heaven. If you live in downtown Salt Lake City, this place is sure to be a staple.
I am a fan of the Citrus Pork Carnitas tacos with slow roasted pork, charred tomatillo salsa, pickled red onions and crunchy chicharones but Taqueria 27 has some lighter items on the menu as well. The Mexican Cobb salad with toasted pepitas and goat cheese is light and tasty. Their vegetarian tacos are stuffed full of grilled vegetables and they have a ton of gluten-free options as well-since most of their tacos are served on delightfully fresh, corn tortillas.
And if you’re up for dessert, the churros and chocolate are a must-try!
